When Jake’s father discovers
that birds are eating the corn
crop, he lets Jake make a
scarecrow.
But Jake’s scarecrow has
problems of his own: he is not
bold enough to frighten off the
big birds - or the small birds -
or the mice that make their
homes in his clothes.
His scarecrow doesn’t like the
wind, the rain or the noises
he hears at night.
Jake has to find a way to make
his scarecrow contented: after
all, scarecrows can’t live in
houses!
